Three Watch Posts
The priests kept watch in three places: the Chamber of Avtinas, the Chamber of the Spark, and the Chamber of the Hearth. This was done to honor the Temple, just like guards watch over a king's palace. Young priests who were not yet old enough to serve watched from the upper floors.

The Chamber of the Hearth had a round roof and was a big hall with stone ledges along the walls. The elder priests whose family would serve the next day slept there, holding the keys to the courtyard.

Clothes as a Pillow
Young priests slept in the Chamber of the Hearth too, but on the ground, each on his own garment. They never slept in their holy garments; instead they took them off, folded them, and placed them under their heads as a pillow, covering themselves with their regular clothes.
